17 FEBRUARY: URGENT INFORMATION REGARDING MODERN APPRENTICESHIPS IN HEALTH AND SOCIAL CARE
Background
Directory of Training Providers For the full directory of training providers who have been allocated Modern Apprenticeships in Health and
The directory shows training providers by the geographical area in which they have been awarded contracts to deliver MAs to employers/candidates in that area. It only shows SVQs at Level 2 & 3, but it is possible that training providers may be able to offer the MA in Health and Social Care at SVQ Level 4. You should ask the training provider if this is the case. SQA Approved Centres To clarify any issues contact David Rennie at or at 07946 607532 07946 607532 07946 607532 07946 607532 .
As you will be aware from previous communications, the Scottish Government last autumn created a number of additional places (1,400 in total) for Modern Apprenticeships (MAs) in Health & Social Care in Scotland, across SVQ Levels 2, 3, 4 and in Leadership & Management for Care Services at Level 4.
We have information that some of the 1,400 places may still be available and we suggest that employers should now check with their local or preferred training provider to check if this is the case. You should note that any new candidate requires to be registered on the MA by 26 March.

In addition, the table shows if the training provider has a contract to deliver the MA in Leadership and Management. This only shows it at SVQ Level 3, but it is in fact an award at SVQ Level 4.
Please note that the MAs are Scottish Government funded. Final decisions on the cost to the employer rests with the training provider, but you should expect that if a charge is made it should be a "relatively small" amount.
A critical part of this is that Skills Development Scotland (the body which issues the contracts to training providers), in allocating the MAs to training providers, are keen to ensure that local employer needs are taken into account as far as possible. For example, if you require more MAs at SVQ Level 2 than at SVQ level 3, then you should ask your training provider if they are able to accommodate your needs. This may apply even if the table does not show that the training provider has been formally awarded an MA at the level you require.

The Workforce Initiative is aware that funding is a central issue in the execution of desired workforce plans. This was clearly stated in the Workforce Surveys carried out by Scottish Care and Scottish Care at Home.
We are also aware that there is insufficient funding available for private sector organisations to meet the range of requirements to train the workforce.
This area of the site will bring together any available funding information for private sector providers. It will of course be noted that some of the funding highlighted may also be available to the voluntary sector.
This area of the site will also draw together information about how the issue of funding is being represented to decision makers and those with influence on funding streams.
