Palliative and End of Life Care, Are Services meeting the Standards in Care Homes for Older People

On 17 March 2011 the Care Commission published a bulletin “Palliative and end of life care. Are services meeting the standards in care homes for older people?"

 

The findings are based on information provided by care homes to the Care Commission in 2008/09.  The Care Commission are pleased to report that whilst further improvement is required, many care homes for older people are supporting a palliative care approach through:

 

·         Staff attendance at local palliative care link nurse meetings

·         Use of the Macmillan Foundation Education Pack

·         Staff working with local Practice Development Facilitators and specialists in palliative care

·         Electronic learning

·         Accessing education through hospices in Scotland.
