Stakeholder consultation on social services workforce data for Scotland

Take part in a consultation exercise being conducted by the Scottish Social Services Council (SSSC). The consultation is with employers and stakeholders who have an interest in data on the social services workforce in Scotland and follows on from the work of the Scottish Government’s Workforce Data Group and the recently published “Social Services Sector: workforce data report 2008” (Click here to view a copy)

This work is part of a wider process which began as far back as 2004 when the only detailed workforce data available on the sector was on local authority social work services staff (through the Scottish Government’s annual census of local authority social work departments). Following consultation with the sector in 2005/6 the core minimum data set (CMDS) was developed ( Click here to view a copy) and in 2007 was embedded in the local authority census and the Care Commission’s annual returns from all registered care providers. It is the data gathered by the Care Commission and Scottish Government in 2008 which is published in the report referred to earlier.

 

The next step in the work of the Group is to consult with employers and other stakeholders on the workforce data that is currently collected at a national level by Scottish Government and the Care Commission. The main questions or issues for the consultation are:

 

- What are the current national workforce data requirements of social service employers and other stakeholders with an interest in the sector in Scotland?

- To what extent do the CMDS and the published data report address these needs?

- What changes should be made to how this data is reported and made accessible?

- What changes should be made to what data is collected?

- What changes should be made to how this data is gathered?

 

The consultation events will take the form of focus groups and each will last approximately 1.5 hours. There are three focus groups being held and full details of venues will be confirmed in due course. The dates and times are:

 

                - Monday 21^st February, 10.30am -12noon, Dundee.

                - Tuesday 22^nd February, 10.30am -12noon, Edinburgh.

                - Thursday 24^th February, 10.30am – 12noon, Glasgow.
