Learning or training and the ongoing development of the care sector workforce will be a key factor in the continued delivery of excellent levels of care in the future. Training is required in clinical knowledge, management development, health & safety, first aid, manual handling and hygiene to name a few of the key areas.
There are a large number of providers who can provide a wide range of learning opportunities. The important issues that are generally taken into account when choosing providers and/or training is the cost of training, flexibility of delivery, relevance to the providers' needs and accreditation received.
Given the wide range of training courses available and the different areas that need to be covered, we have tried to provide some information about the various types of learning available and an easy portal to some training providers across Scotland. These are providers such as colleges, universities and some charities which provide training or may offer guidance.
The list of providers is in no way exhaustive and it does not cover the independent private companies in detail. However, the latter are more often locally based and individual care services providers are normally more aware of private training companies in their own locality.
The links to organisations in this section should not be taken as an endorsement of the training provision as each care service provider must ensure that the learning opportunities offered meets their own individual needs and quality criteria.
