Compulsory legislation for Supervisors in Care Home Services for Adults

Applications for registration have to be submitted to SSSC by 30 September 2011

The Scottish Government has announced the dates for compulsory registration for supervisors in care home services for adults.

All supervisors in care home services for adults must be registered with the SSSC by 30 March 2012.  To ensure that the SSSC have all applications for registration processed by this date they have set a deadline for all applications to be submitted by the 30 September 2011.  Workers who submit applications after 30 September 2011 will not be guaranteed registration by the deadline of 30 March 2012.  Employers continuing to employ supervisors who are not registered with the SSSC or another regulatory body will be committing an offence under new government legislation.

What is a ‘supervisor’?:

• a person (not being a manager of a care home service for adults) who is employed in the provision of a care home service for adults and whose normal duties include supervising staff employed in such provision and monitoring the implementation of planned programmes of care.

Anyone carrying out these tasks must apply for registration as a supervisor.
