Older people are living longer and forming a greater proportion of the population. Whilst many older people enjoy healthier active lifestyles many more need help due to illness and failing health.
The Scottish Government’s ‘Reshaping Care for Older People’ programme sets out a long term, strategic approach to providing change that can deliver future care for older people in Scotland.
The strategy lays out a national framework for local partnerships to develop joint strategies and commissioning plans. This includes Local Change Plans to access the Scottish Government’s Change Fund.
Sitting alongside other Scottish Government health strategies the ‘Reshaping Care for Older People’ programme is delivered through partnership working involving the NHS, local councils, the third sector and private provision.
The challenge is not whether Scotland can afford the substantial costs for the ‘Reshaping Care for Older People’ programme but whether it can afford not to.
