During this year two major suites of National Occupational Standards (NOS) are being reviewed and revised. These are:
•Children's Care, Learning and Development (CCLD)
•Health and Social Care (H&SC).
The HSC and CCLD NOS are jointly owned by Skills for Care & Development (SfC&D) and Skills for Health, and are being reviewed by both sectors.
The SSSC is a partner of the UK sector skills council, SfC&D and has responsibility to develop and maintain the NOS for the care sector in Scotland. One of the principles for qualifications accepted for registration by the SSSC is that they are based upon the standards; therefore NOS have a significant role in Scotland.
In recent weeks, people from across the UK have been taking part in sector events or responding to online surveys to let the SSSC know their views on the HSC and CCLD NOS as they stand, and on how they'd like to see them updated. Everyone's comments have been brought together so that decisions on actual changes can be made. To see the ideas that were often repeated for each set of NOS, click on the links below:
These key messages will help decide the big picture of changes needed. The full set of comments will then be studied carefully again to revise each NOS separately.
As changes are made to the NOS, it will have to be established if they are the right changes. This means that people's views will be asked for again, so there will be plenty of opportunities to take part in the review, even if you haven't been able to do this so far.
The first revised versions should be ready for comment by early September and then more will become available throughout the autumn. Keep checking the SSSC website to find out how you can see the drafts and make your comments known.
SSSC will go on making changes as needed until the full set of revised NOS is available for final comment around the end of this year.
