It is important to note that there are currently discussions taking place to consider the whole area of how to best facilitate social services organisations in their workforce planning. The models presented below are just that, they each offer an approach to planning and provide tools to assist the process. The Workforce Initiative does not specifically endorse any of the approaches.
Currently available tools to workforce plan include:
- "Workforce Planning Toolkit", Voluntary Sector Social Services Workforce Unit (VSSSWU).
- "EVOC Training Needs Analyser", Edinburgh Voluntary Organisations Council (EVOC).
- "Towards a Confident and Competent Residential Child Care Workforce", Scottish Institute for Residential Child Care (SIRCC)
- Workforce Planning Tool (SSSC). This is a CD produced by the SSSC to help organisations through the workforce planning process. If you wish to know more about this, contact Mike Docherty at the SSSC on 01382 207101 or email
- Skills for Health has developed the Six Steps Methodology to Integrated Workforce Planning and their website has a great deal of further information about using this model. It should be noted that the case studies and references made relate to planning health services but the methodology and processes are equally applicable to social care services.
