SSSC Registration

Registration of the Care at Home Workforce

Workers in care at home services applying to be registered with the SSSC

The SSSC will begin registering:

Managers of care at home services from December 2010.

To register a worker must satisfy the criteria for registration. This includes holding the appropriate qualifications for the job they do and being able to evidence good character.

Applicants for registration who do not hold required qualifications may, if they meet all the other eligibility criteria for registration eg evidence of 'good character', be granted registration subject to the condition that they achieve the required qualifications within a specified period - normally their first three year period of registration.

To register with the SSSC you must also:

i)   work in a service that is registered by the Care Commission
ii)  not currently be registered with one of the following regulatory bodies:

General Social Care Council
Care Council for Wales
Northern Ireland Social Care Council
General Teaching Council
Health Professions Council
Nursing and Midwifery Council
General Medical Council
General Dental Council
Royal Pharmaceutical Society

The SSSC have consulted the sector on qualifications, fees and Post Registration Training and Learning requirements and it is hoped that the results of this consultation process will be available shortly.
