SSSC Registration

Workers in care home services for adults

 The SSSC compulsory registration dates and information:

  • Managers of care home services must submit registration applications to the SSC within six months of taking up employment.  Registration compulsory from 30 November 2009. 
  • Supervisors in care home services for adults by 30 September 2011.  Compulsory registration from 30 March 2012.
  • Practitioners in care home services for adults by 28 September 2012. Compulsory registration from 29 March 2013.
  • Support workers in care home services for adults by 30 September 2014.  Compulsory registration from 30 September 2015.

This means that all Managers, Supervisors and Practitioners in care home services for adults should now be registered with the SSSC.  Support workers will be required to register in the next couple of years.

Managers, supervisors and practioners new to post have six months from the date they start in the post to gain registration with the SSSC.

When the Care Commission inspects your service they will check to see if workers are registered and if the service has a training plan in place. The SSSC website contains extensive information about registration and what compulsory registration means for you as either an employer or a worker.  The website should answer any questions you may have about registration.
