What's On

Scottish Social Services Learning Networks

The Scottish Social Services Learning Network is an innovative approach designed to support the learning and development of Scotland's social service workforce. Its purpose is to bring people and resources together to support effective practice. The Network is for the whole social services workforce. Irrespective of occupation or sector.

The Scottish Social Services Learning Network works in partnership with local agencies and stakeholders to support social service workforce development at 'grass roots' level. In order to do this effectively, the Learning Network has a regional structure. There are four regional Learning Networks: North, Tayforth, South East and West. Each regional Network is tasked with implementing four national aims through the development of activity supportive to local structures and ways of working. The Vision, Purpose and Aims of the Learning Networks are as follows:

Vision
The Scottish Government’s and the Scottish Social Services Council’s vision is that the Scottish Social Services Learning Networks have a unique contribution to make in supporting the workforce learning and development of the social services sector.

The Learning Networks are the only bodies funded specifically to enable partnerships; the sharing of knowledge and experience; facilitation of new ways of working and sharing of resources.

The Scottish Government’s vision is that the Learning Networks act as catalysts for change in meeting the learning and development needs of the social services sector.

Purpose
Learning Networks provide an effective forum to enable workforce learning and development which is a key contributor to improving services that better meet the needs of service users and carers.

Aims

  1. To bring together relevant stakeholders to agree and take forward strategic priorities and shared solutions for workforce development in the Network areas
  2. To facilitate effective communication of policy, knowledge, information and good practice
  3. To act as a mechanism for employer engagement with the objectives of the Sector Skills Council
  4. To enable social service organisations to engage with and inform national initiatives affecting social service workforce and development.
